- the C-4’s weight reduction was partly achieved by the omission of a tube

- the consequent frame flex provides a sort of suspension

- this idea origins in the 19th century

- UK-based Coventry Machinists Company experimented with frames without seat tubes

- C-4 first appeared with the missing tube concept in 1985

- four years later the Italian manufacturer Colnago took up the idea

- carbon fibre formed into monocoque with the NJC (No Joint Construction)

- lightweight components and carbon wheels complete this bike

- an extremely tractable and attractive machine
